This is a non-exempt, temporary, part-time position, limited to 1300 hours annually, under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and/or Coordinator. The Recreation Leader is responsible for all participants in a program area and the planning and leadership of all activities at the site as assigned by the supervisor.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning of weekly program of activities

  • Direct supervision of all staff at site – includes daily guidance and written evaluations

  • Appropriate effective discipline and direct management of all children/youth and adults

  • Responsible for maintaining all records and data on each participant and each employee and keeping these current

  • Facilitation of activities for all groups

  • Establish a positive rapport with all participants/parents in program

  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions, including any state-mandated courses

  • Responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies and tracking inventories

  • Responsible for collection of fees (if applicable)

  • Responsible for effectively handling all emergency incidents that occur, using mature, sound judgment

  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and facilities

  • Must turn in all forms in a timely manner as instructed

  • Ensure adequate communication with staff/supervisor/parents and participants

  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

  • Be able to respond to any emergency situation

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Operations, services and activities of an assigned program area.

  • Sports and youth/teen programming

  • Appropriate staff supervision skills

  • Group management techniques

Ability to:

  • Oversee, coordinate and implement programs in assigned area.

  • Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing services.

  • Provide lead direction to program participants and staff

  • Evaluate and recommend programs that meet community needs.

  • Interpret and apply rules and regulations in assigned program areas.

  • Ensure program compliance with mandated City policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required

  • Proven customer service skills

  • 1+ year experience in parks and/or recreation setting


All assignments- First Aid certification must to be obtained within six months of appointment. All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout the term of employment. Failure to obtain and maintain the licenses and certifications may result in demotion or termination.

The individual must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule.
