Position Summary

The RN Clinical Scholar is a registered professional nurse who demonstrates expertise in clinical nursing. RN Clinical Scholars are responsible for supervision and evaluation of nursing students in clinical rotations within Centura Health. The RN Clinical Scholar works in collaboration with the Clinical Student Placement Coordinator in the Department of Professional Development and the course faculty at affiliated academic institutions. Assumes accountability and responsibility for collaborative development of nursing students and new associates through clinical oversight, mentorship and professional development activities. Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in accordance with policies, procedures, standards, and regulations. The scope of the role will be determined through collaboration with leadership, educators, and advanced practice nurses to enhance the quality of patient care. A facility requirement to work as a unit based RN may be required.

Minimum Education Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)

Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing is preferred

Minimum Experience Requirements

Five years of nursing experience

Two years of staff development, academic teaching and /or project development coordination preferred

Requires advanced knowledge in nursing, evidence-based practice methods, and person-centered care concepts

Nursing skills and knowledge base specific to assigned clinical rotations

Knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Office products; student placement and learning management system experience preferred

License/Certification Requirements

Current Colorado RN license / Current RN license from a participating state in National Licensure Compact

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association Additional life support certifications may be required (refer to facility addendum(s)

Current appropriate facility identified national professional certification upon hire, or within one year of meeting eligibility requirements

Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )

Acts as a change agent in support of house wide education initiatives.

Acts as a member of the education support team for management of quality and regulatory initiatives and projects.

Advances clinical care through integration of policies, procedures and standards into practice.

Is knowledgeable in current healthcare trends and related legislative issues.

Incorporates evidence-based practice and adult learning theory in project and course content.

Seeks out continuous learning opportunities and continuing education in areas of staff development and clinical expertise.

Demonstrates competence in the use of technology.

Utilizes American Nurses Association Scope and Standards of Nursing Professional Development.

Plans, presents and facilitates education initiatives/classes/events that benefit students and staff in collaboration with educators and unit leaders. May include; but not limited to student and staff orientation, skills validation, residency training program, specialty practice training classes, simulation, preceptor classes, and just-in-time training.

Evaluates the quality of programs and services offered, including student evaluations and incorporates feedback into both role and program improvement.

Participates in facility or Centura Health system meetings as appropriate.

Demonstrates clinical skills and judgment, competency and nursing process in the care and management of assigned patient populations.

Provides feedback to department focused RN educators to maintain and improve the delivery of patient care.

Function as a role model using principles of communication and change theory in providing health care consultation to students and associates.
